Our Story

The journey began back in early 2000.

Considering the tumultuous times we (and the world) were going through, it became glaringly obvious that change was in the air. Not knowing exactly what would appear, we tore down the walls of our existing life in order to create a broader vista, a clearer look at what we wanted the rest of our lives to look like. Tearing down walls that took decades to build, letting light shine into dark corners never before exposed, we began to pave our way towards a more fulfilling and purposeful life… and hence the question “What about Costa Rica?”.

After 8 lengthy trips, 7 of them back to this very area and after many extensive hikes up jungle mountainsides, through muddy rivers, in the rain and hot sun we finally met our 5 ½ acres that would become our home and sacred retreat space.

Karen had been guided to study Vastu and it became obvious that our Costa Rica retreat space needed to be planned according to this ancient science of building and design – design that works in conjunction with nature and the natural flow of the Universal energy. After connecting with Michael Borden, a Vastu architect, we began to put the plan on paper that would become the foundation for our sacred retreat site. As time goes on and the process continues, we understand our role to be that of custodians, keepers of this manifestation that is showing us what it needs to be. We have been called here, simply because, in our heart of hearts, it just makes sense.

Saying goodbye to our home, our community and a lifetime of friends wasn’t easy, however, we knew on a deeper level that our place would no longer be in the U.S. Once we decided on the land, all things began to fall into place – not without challenge, of course – but it was clear that the road before us was already paved – we just needed to follow it.

We are now filled with eternal gratitude to be able to open our doors and our hearts to those looking for a special space for the wellness workshops and spiritual retreats that might lead them down their own path of truth, or perhaps just a stop along the way.
